The Religious Capital of the World
Haridwar the most auspicious Holy place in Uttarakhand, surrounded by hills and bisected by the wide Ganges, is often claimed as the Religious Capital of the World. Haridwar has long been a spiritual centre and gateway to the pilgrim places of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, the four great places which combine to make Chardham. It is believed that Haridwar is the Dwar of Hari and Mukti.
Haridwar has numerous ashrams, some of which are internationally recognized as centers of philosophical studies, yoga and meditation.
