Haridwar the most auspicious Holy place in Uttarakhand, surrounded by hills and bisected by the wide Ganges, is often claimed as the Religious Capital of the World. Haridwar has long been a spiritual centre and gateway to the pilgrim places of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, the four great places which combine to make Chardham. It is believed that Haridwar is the Dwar of Hari and Mukti.
Haridwar has numerous ashrams, some of which are internationally recognized as centers of philosophical studies, yoga and meditation. The whole place is considered to be sacred as it is believed that meditation at this place leads to attainment of salvation. A great mass of Indian and Foreign tourist also visits this place seeking spiritual enlightenment and also to enjoy the natural treasures of this place. Many pilgrimes come and take a holy dip in Ganges & Pure their heart and Soul. Now Haridwar is also knew as the yoga capital of India due to establishment of Patanjali Yogpeeth by Baba Ram Dev.
The climate here is continental type but its location in the foot hills of Himalayas gives it a pleasant weather throughout the year.
